Lake Garda is an area of serene beauty nestled at the foot of spectacular backdrops that feature olive groves, vineyards and craggy mountain terrain. The lake itself is the largest freshwater lake in Italy and features many small islands that you can explore on a gentle boat cruise.
The shimmering waters of the lake are also fringed by lovely towns and resorts where you can enjoy the peaceful environment that surrounds you. Situated on the north eastern shore, Malcesine is a pretty village which attracts holidaymakers every year due to its attractive shoreline. Here you can explore its thirteenth century castle, the Castello Scaligero and Palazzo dei Capitani, the former headquarters of the Venetian rulers of the area. Malcesine is also a great place to experience the dramatic scenery of the area on the cable car to the summit of Mount Baldo or catch a boat to many of the lake resorts including Riva and Limone.
In the lake’s capital Garda Town, you can soak up the atmosphere at the delightful lakeside restaurants or enjoy browsing the shops in the narrow cobbled streets. On a coach break to Lake Garda you can also visit Bardolino where you can sample its famous home grown wine, visit the Oil Museum and see the striking Church of San Zeno.
