Guernsey & Jersey Spectacular
Join Caledonian Travel when we visit the two largest Channel Islands, both have a continental ambience, with street and village names in French, but without the language barrier or having to change any currency. With three nights in each destination, you will have the opportunity to get to know each a little better. On Guernsey visit St Peters Port, with its cobbled streets and Regency architecture, there is so much to see and do in this delightful island. Hauteville House was Victor Hugo’s home on the island, and where he wrote may of his novels while in exile from France or take a walk around Candie Gardens with spectacular views over St Peters Port and over the other islands creating the archipelago. Take a break at the Café Victoria, before investigating the treasures in the Guernsey Museum, with over 200 works of art on display including a fantastic Rodin bust of Victor Hugo, which takes pride of place. Castle Cornet is at the entrance to the port, which it has guarded for over 800 years, with five different museums as well as four stunning period gardens, you can easily enjoy a full day’s visit. When you arrive in Jersey, why not wander through Howard Park with beautiful floral displays and the war cemetery is a serene place for contemplation, wander along to Liberation Square where the celebrations took place at the end of the Second World War and there is now a monument in recognition of this important day, the Jersey War Tunnels are the ideal place to discover more about this harsh time on the island. Visit the Fisherman’s Chapel in St Brelade Bay, built in 14th Century, this small church overlooks the award winning sandy beach, relax and enjoy afternoon tea at one of the many hotels. The amazing views at the Devil’s Hole make it worth the steep walk, you may be lucky enough to see the puffins the island is known for, or even some of the local dolphins. Both destinations include a tour of the island, with a knowledgeable guide to ensure you get the most from your trip.
