The Hungarian city of Budapest is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities and is a great place to visit on a coach trip to Eastern Europe. Divided by the River Danube the city is split into two historically contrasting areas, Buda and Pest, which are united by a series of bridges to create this sensational city.
Located on the Western Bank of the River, the old town district of Buda is located on the hillside of the city and features many delightful streets and squares which lead up to Castle Hill and the Royal Palace, a striking building which dominates the landscape and offers unrivalled views of the city. On this side of the city there are many museums to visit including the Hungarian National Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art not forgetting the region’s famous Turkish baths.
In contrast, Pest is the commercial heartbeat of the city and home to elegant streets and boulevards where you will find a vibrant shopping scene and café culture. Pest is very much about the ‘here and now’ and is perhaps symbolised best of all by the city’s commanding neo-gothic Parliament building which lies on the embankment and houses the current Government of Hungary.
For an alternative view of the city landscape, you can also climb on-board a boat for a gentle river cruise, from which you can also see the many islands of the Danube in and around Budapest.
