You could be forgiven for thinking you’re at the British seaside on a coach break to Ostend, no wonder people return to this vibrant Belgian coastal town year after year.
The hub of activity in Ostend is without doubt the lively yacht harbour where you’ll find countless bars, restaurants and the old fisherman’s quarter which sells everything from fresh fish and seafood to locally brewed beer.
Take in the fresh sea air on a stroll along the famous Albert I promenade and see the famous royal monuments as well as the town’s casino and pier, from which you can enjoy fabulous panoramic views of the bay.
The beautiful coastline also offers no fewer than five golden sandy beaches which are perfect for a relaxing afternoon sunbathing. Although there’s a modern edge to the city, Ostend is also home to some cultural delights including the impressive neo-gothic church of St Petrus and St Paul, Fort Napoleon, which was built to protect the region from British invasion and the Mercator tall ship in the marina, used by the Belgian Army to train military sailors.
