Coach holidays to York

Located on the banks of the River Ouse and contained within the most complete example of medieval city walls still standing in England today, York remains one of the UK’s most popular heritage cities.

The city is inevitably characterised by its rich history which dates back over 2000 years but with modern tourist attractions and a vibrant café scene, there’s more of a cosmopolitan feel to York nowadays. When you walk around York it’s easy to see the distinctive marks which the Romans, Saxons and Vikings left on the city.

Its historical centrepieces are without doubt Clifford’s Tower and York Minster, the largest Gothic Cathedral in northern Europe which provides a stunning backdrop to the narrow cobbled passages that are lined with independent boutiques as well as quaint English tearooms. Despite now enjoying a modern edge, the city’s historical past is never far away and is retold in the city’s popular visitor attractions too. At the Jorvik Viking Centre and Castle Museum you can experience the sights and smells of the city in days gone by whilst The York Chocolate Story and the National Railway Museum provide a fascinating insight into its industrial past.
