Coach holidays to Northumberland
Northumbria is undoubtedly Britain’s best kept secret but with spectacular yet peaceful beaches, rolling sand dunes and historic landmarks there’s no wonder that coach holidays to the northernmost region of the UK are growing in popularity.
Bamburgh Castle is without doubt the most photographed and iconic site of the region with its impressive fortress overlooking the North Sea and providing a spectacular sight along the dramatic shoreline. Nearby Alnwick Castle is equally as impressive and known as ‘the Windsor of the North’ is steeped in history and dominates the skyline in the market town of Alnwick. Film lovers will instantly recognise the castle as the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first two Harry Potter films.
Meanwhile coach breaks to Northumbria wouldn’t be complete without a trip across the tidal causeway to Holy Island. This small island is home to Lindisfarne Priory, and the centre of a popular Christian pilgrimage which takes place every year to mark Holy Week. As well as offering spectacular panoramic views, Holy Island is also a protected nature reserve and a sanctuary for wildlife such as seals as well as rare birds.
With pretty fishing villages such as Seahouse and Berwick also waiting to be discovered, Northumbria is fast emerging as the destination of choice for discerning coach holidaymakers.
